The country is keenly watching Chandrayaan-3 on its way to make its historic touchdown on the Moon’s south pole with people from diverse faiths praying for the mission’s success. On Tuesday, the Indian Space Research Organisation said the Chandrayaan-3 mission was on schedule and shared images of the Moon captured by the Lander Position Detection Camera (LPDC) from an altitude of about 70 kilometres. "The mission is on schedule. Systems are undergoing regular checks. Smooth sailing is continuing," tweeted posted on X.

Meanwhile, people in the various parts of the country held prayers for the success of the mission. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Anand Dubey on Tuesday organised a ‘havan’ at Chandramauleshwar Shiv Mandir in Mumbai for the successful landing of Chandrayaan-3.

In Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow, Muslims offered namaz at the Islamic Centre of India where they prayed for the mission’s success.

Locals in UP’s Agra and Varanasi also performed havan for the successful touchdown of Chandrayaan-3 on Moon’s south pole.

The lander (Vikram), which carries a rover (Pragyan) in its belly, is expected to touch down near the south polar region around 6.04 pm. If successful, India will become the first country to reach the south pole of Earth's only natural satellite.
