Hathras Stampede: More than 100 people lost their lives and several others sustained injuries in a tragic stampede during a religious congregation in a village in Hathras district on Tuesday. This incident serves as a grim reminder of previous religious gatherings across India, where overcrowding and panic often lead to deaths and injuries.

Some of the highest death tolls caused by stampedes at religious gatherings include the death of over 340 devotees at Maharashtra's Mandhardevi temple in 2005. Later, at least 250 died at Rajasthan's Chamunda Devi temple in 2008.
