Gujarat Election 2017

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) regained power in Gujarat for a sixth consecutive term in 2017, just edging beyond the halfway point in one of the most fiercely contested elections

Out of 182, the BJP won 99 seats, and the Congress increased its total from five years prior by gaining 77 seats. Six seats were won by candidates from smaller parties and independents.

While the BJP retained sway in the state's south, north, and centre of Gujarat, Congress prevailed in the state's vast Saurashtra/Kutch area.

While the Congress won majority of its seats in rural areas, the BJP demonstrated its dominance over metropolitan areas.
