The Karnataka government will roll out the ‘Gruha Laxmi Scheme’ on Wednesday in Mysuru. This scheme will be rolled out at a public function in Mysuru in the presence of state Chief Minister Siddaramiah and Congress national president Mallikarjun Kharge among other senior leaders of the party. Under the scheme, the state government will provide monthly aid of Rs. 2,000 each to about 1.1 crore women head of BPL families. 'Gruha Laxmi' scheme is one of the five pre-poll 'guarantees' of the Congress, which ousted the BJP from power in the assembly elections held in May. The government has earmarked Rs. 17,500 crore for 'Gruha Laxmi' programme in the current financial year.


"As many as 1.1 crore women heads of households will be given Rs. 2,000 every month," Siddararamaiah told reporters in Mysuru, his home district on Tuesday, as per PTI.

The chief minister had given the order for the implementation of Gruha Laxmi Yojana after the first cabinet meeting on May 20, 2023. The Gruha Laxmi Scheme is an initiative by the state government to empower women and improve their lives. The scheme will provide women of Karnataka with some financial assistance to meet their basic needs and improve their living standards. It will also boost their economic participation and contribute to the overall development of Karnataka.


The eligibility criteria of Gruha Laxmi Scheme


Women listed as family heads on Antyodaya, Below Poverty Line (BPL), and Above Poverty Line (APL) ration cards are eligible for the Gruha Laxmi Scheme. Only one woman in a family will be the beneficiary of this scheme. The applicant must be a resident of Karnataka.


The family income cannot be over Rs 2 lakhs. They cannot be a government employee or be a tax payer. 


They also cannot be married to a tax payer or own any land.

How to apply for the Gruha Laxmi Scheme 


An applicant will have to log in to – gruhaLaxmi.karnataka.gov.in or alternative, they can visit an assigned centre.


They should then fill in the required information for the scheme and upload the documents.


If online, click the submit button and note the application form number for future reference.


The following the documents are required: Aadhaar card, Residence certificate,Address Proof (Aadhaar Card, Voter Card, Driving License), Identity Proof (Aadhaar Card, Voter Card, Driving License), Income certificate, Ration Card (BPL, APL, Antyodaya Card), Passport size photo. Aadhaar card and Income certificate of the husband. 


The state government has already implemented three of the five 'guarantees' (pre-poll promises) – 'Shakti', 'Gruha Jyothi' and 'Anna Bhagya' – and 'Gruha Laxmi' is the fourth one.


The fifth one is the 'Yuva Nidhi' scheme that promises to provide unemployment allowance to the state's youth.
