New Delhi: Paying tribute to the former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the government of India on Thursday announced that it will soon launch a new Rs 100 coin with an image of him. As the official statement the special coin will weight 35 grams and will have an image of Vajpayee along with his name inscribed in Devragari script as well as English. As Vajpayee was born in 1924 and died in 2018, both the years would also be mentioned in the bottom of his picture.
As per reports, the other side of the coin will bear the Lion Capitol of Ashoka Pillar in the centre with ‘Satyameva Jayate’ written below in the Devanagari script. The word ‘Bharat’ will be inscribed on its left periphery in the Devanagari script and ‘India’ will be written on the right side in English language. Below the Ashoka Pillar will be the rupee symbol and the denominational value of 100.
Former PM and veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader passed away on August 16, 2018 at the age of 93. Vajpayee has served three terms as the prime minister of India with first being only for 13 days in 1996, second time for 13 months in 1998 and third time for almost six years from 1999.
In the honour of the late prime minister even the Uttarakhand government decided to rename Dehradun airport after his name. Lucknow's famous 'Hazratganj Chauraha' will also be renamed after him as 'Atal Chowk'. Apart from the two, various other places have been renamed after Vajpayee. Four Himalayan peaks have been named after him. Chhattisgarh's Naya Raipur has also been renamed to Atal Nagar.
Recently, Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government cleared decks for settin up Atal Bihari Vajpayee Medical University that will serve as a parent institution for all medical and dental college in the state.
