With the opposition escalating its attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government as the protests against the new farm laws hit a record 100 days, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar reached out to the farmers and said the Centre was ready to make amendments to the three agriculture laws while taking note of their emotions.
“On the directions of the Prime Minister, I as the Agriculture Minister held 12 rounds of discussions with the representatives of farmers’ organisations. I also proposed amendments on many important issues,” said Narendra Singh Tomar.
The Union Agriculture Minister also lashed out at the opposition for politicising the issue.
“I also put forth the government’s stand in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. The members of every political party raised the matter in Parliament but none pointed out the faults in the new legislations,” said Narendra Singh Tomar.
“I know there is a place for disagreement in a democracy and so is the case for opposition and difference of opinion but should the protests be done at the cost of putting the country in a disadvantageous position,” he asked.

Meanwhile, farmer leader Darshan Pal Singh said the farmers’ organisations are adamant on their demand that the government withdraw the three agriculture laws.
The farmers, who have been camping at various Delhi borders, have expressed apprehension that the new agriculture laws would pave way for dismantling of the minimum support price (MSP) system, leaving them at the “mercy” of big corporations.
The Central Government has despite firm opposition, however, maintained the new laws will bring better opportunities to the farmers and introduce new reforms in the agriculture sector.
