The Indian government has proposed three specific themes for the 2023 Republic Day Parade tableaux. These themes are ‘India@75’, ‘International Year of Millets’, and ‘Nari Shakti’, news agency PTI reported. In a letter from the Union Ministry of Defence, various state governments, central ministries and departments have been invited to participate in the Republic Day Parade on January 26, 2023, sources told PTI. The state governments and central ministries and departments have been asked to create tableaux choosing any of the three themes, or a combination of the three.
India completed 75 years of Independence on August 15, 2022. In order to celebrate this, the government has proposed that the ‘India@75’ tableau will include India’s freedom struggle, the nation’s achievements, actions, and resolutions over the past seven decades.
In 2021, India proposed to the United Nations to declare 2023 as the International Year of Millets (IYOM). This is the reason behind the introduction of the ‘International Year of Millets’ theme. India’s proposal to the UN received support from 72 countries. As a result, the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) declared 2023 the ‘International Year of Millets’.

The Defence Ministry said that each tableau should include electronic display walls for bright display of images or content, moving elements using mechatronics or robotics, and 3D-printing, and should use eco-friendly material. The departments have been directed to avoid the use of plastic and plastic-based products as far as feasible. The Defence Ministry has advised the use of special effects to the maximum extent possible to improve the optics and visual effects of the tableaux.
This year, the tableau of Uttar Pradesh was selected as the best tableau among the 12 states and Union territories which participated in the Republic Day Parade on January 26.
