GORAKHPUR: In another instance of triple talaq, a woman was given divorced on phone by her husband for giving birth to a baby girl.

Qadira Begum, a resident of Gorakhpur, alleged that her husband, Parvez, divorced her for giving birth to a girl.

"You are not coming, don't come. I am giving you divorce. From now onwards, don't dial my number. I will send documents of divorce at your doorstep," her husband can be heard saying on phone.

"I am giving you divorce and that's it. According to 'Shariat' it's all over..," he said.

"My in-laws wanted a son. After the girl was born, they harrassed and threatened me. I tolerated atrocities thinking their conduct with improve and things will be fine but it didn't happen," Qadira said.

Qadira's father was deeply stressed after his daughter was given divorce and later died.

"We are poor but fulfilled all their demands by selling our belongings to make sure our daughter remains happy," Anis fatima, Qadira's mother, said.

The victim has sought Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's help and demanded justice. She reached Gorakhnath temple to seek his intervention.

Modi raised triple talaq issue:

Raising the contentious issue of triple talaq yet again, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday said that the Muslim community should look for solutions than politicising the issue.

Addresing the Basava Convention in New Delhi, Prime Minister Modi said: “Main Muslim samaaj se aagrah karunga ki triple talaq ke mudde ko rajneeti ke daayre mein mat aane dijiye. Aap log aake aakar iska samaadhan kijiye (I urge the Muslim society not to politicise the triple talaq issue. Rather, come forward and solve the matter).”

Modi said the reformers of the community will come forward to protect women from ill-effects of triple talaq. “Muslim samaaj se prabudh log aage aayenge, Muslim betiyon ke saath jo guzar rahi hai uske khilaf woh khud ladai ladenge aur kabhi na kabhi raasta nikalenge (Muslim reformers will come forward some day and fight against the suffering of Muslim daughters and will find a solution one day or the other).

He also said that his government will bring an end to this archaic law.
