New Delhi: The ex-wife of Ahmad Murtaza Abbasi, who has been arrested in connection with the attack on Gorakhnath temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Gorakhpur, has claimed he is “not mentally unwell”.
Abbasi’s former wife Shadima told this to ABP News in an exclusive conversation.
Abbasi, who is currently on police remand, got married to Shadima earlier in 2019.
Meanwhile, sources said that Abbasi, an alumnus of Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, has links with the ISIS and was in tough with the fanatics.

Sources said that Abbasi used to watch videos of the ISIS and listened to controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Nayak’s videos on the internet.
The medical officials at Gorakhpur District Hospital have also declared that Abbasi is not mentally unwell.
The versions of Abbasi’s former wife and medical officials contradict the claims made by his family members, who have categorically stated that he is mentally ill.
Abbasi’s father had earlier in his interaction with the media personnel soon after the incident claimed that his son suffered from mental health issues, adding the same later aggravated into suicidal tendencies.
Abbasi, according to his family members, started having mental health issues earlier in 2017. They also claimed that he had been under observation at several places after the mental health issues.
This may pave the way for a proper investigation against Abbasi, who attacked the security personnel deployed at the Gorakhnath temple earlier on Sunday night.
Abbasi, who tried to charge into the temple after raising the slogan of ‘Allahu Akbar’, was arrested and sent to judicial remand for two weeks.
Gorakhnath Temple is the headquarters of the Gorakhnath mutt, of which Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is the head priest.
