New Delhi: Who doesn’t get annoyed from excessive unnecessary honking on the roads, especially when you are behind the wheel? Here’s some good news for drivers who prefer smooth driving without noise.
The Central government is mulling to impose hefty fine on vehicle owners, manufacturers and dealers, in order to curb the problem of excessive honking on the roads which leads to a lot of noise pollution.
Needless excessive honking which many drivers resort to in order to vent out their frustration, caused due to slow moving traffic or jams might cost them Rs 500 fine for the first offence and Rs 1,000 for subsequent ones.
A penalty of Rs 5,000 could also be levied on owners for installing multi-toned or air horns which are shrill, loud and with alarming noise in their vehicles. Car dealers and garage owners who install such fancy horns might have to shed an amount upto Rs 1 lakh as penalty.
According to the reports, the road transport ministry plans to introduce these proposals during the Monsoon session of Parliament, and these rules are likely to be made a part of the comprehensive amendments to the Motor Vehicle Act.
