Amit Palekar Profile News: Advocate and social activist Amit Palekar will be the Chief Ministerial face of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the upcoming Goa elections 2022.


Delhi Chief Minister and AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal announced his name in Panaji on Wednesday.


"We had said that we would give you a candidate, whose heart beats for Goa, and who is ready to die for Goa," Arvind Kejriwal said while announcing Amit Palekar's name.


Arvind Kejriwal further said, "We are making Amit Palekar the CM's face on behalf of AAP. Everyone knows him, he has served people a lot during corona. He was on a perpetual hunger strike regarding the old Goa heritage issue. Goa cannot get a better CM face than this in today's date. I hope people will make him CM with a large number of votes and he will develop Goa."


Who Is Amit Palekar?


Amit Palekar, 46, is a lawyer and was a social worker before joining the Aam Aadmi Party in October last year


AAP has given Amit Palekar a ticket from the St. Cruz assembly constituency.


Amit Palekar's name is considered important because he comes from Bhandari Samaj. About 35 per cent of the people in Goa are from the Bhandari Samaj.


Earlier, Amit Palekar was on a fast as a protest against a bungalow being constructed illegally in the Old Goa Heritage Complex.


A few days after he went on a fast, the Goa government announced action against the disputed structure, after which Amit Palekar ended his fast. Arvind Kejriwal had also visited him during that fast.


According to reports, Amit Palekar's mother has been a sarpanch of the Merces village for 10 years.


However, Palekar has not been part of a political party before joining AAP.


Amit Palekar has been quite active in helping people during the corona period as well as on corruption issues. It is believed that people in Goa are fond of him.
