The glacial break triggered an avalanche and massive flooding of Dhauliganga river near Rishiganga Power Project at Raini village in Tapovan area of the district.

The glacier led to a massive flood in the Dhauli Ganga river and caused large-scale devastation as homes along the way were swept away.

The flash flood due to the avalanche also destroyed houses situated at the river bank side. Several villages were evacuated as a precautionary measure.
