The Begusarai MP, tweeted from his official account that India is moving towards cultural division on the lines of the year 1947 and called on the political parties to come together to bring about a population control law in the country.
“The population explosion economy in India is disturbing the balance of social harmony and resources. Religion disruption to population control mechanism is also one of the reasons why India is moving towards cultural division on the lines of 47. All political parties need to come forward for a population control law,” he tweeted.
A strong BJP politician from Bihar, Singh defeated left candidate Kanhaiya Kumar from Begusarai in the recent Lok Sabha polls.
Singh’s remarks on population control targeting a particular religion has had created several rows in the past as well.
In the year 2016, he fuelled a controversy by stating that the population should be controlled by ensuring that people of all religions have the same number of children in their families.
In October 2016, he urged Hindus to produce more children, again leading to huge controversy.
Again on 4 November 2016, he stressed that the Hindus in India need to increase their population.
In January, he had tweeted that how will the country bear the load of increasing population and depleting resources in its proportion. Population explosion is detrimental for India from all angles, he had said.
