New Delhi: The Delhi Police has registered an FIR against Tihar Jail Deputy Superintendent Narendra Meena and four of his subordinates in connection with the death of gangster Ankit Gujjar, who was found dead inside the jail complex last week.


The FIR was registered earlier on Monday as the gangster’s family members alleged that he was murdered inside the Tihar Jail.

A Delhi court had earlier directed the police to register an FIR and investigate the under-trial prisoner’s death inside the jail complex.


Gujjar, lodged in jail number 3, was found dead under mysterious circumstances inside the Tihar Jail complex on July 4.


The gangster’s family members earlier alleged that there were injury marks on his body.


Calling it to be a case of murder, the family members accused five jail officials, including the deputy superintendent.


Two other prisoners were found injured and later admitted to the hospital on the day Gujjar was found dead inside the jail complex.


The gangster’s family members said that they rushed to Tihar Jail on receiving a phone call that he was beaten up inside the jail complex.

Gujjar, a resident of Baghpat in Haryana, was arrested by the Delhi Police Special Cell, He carried a reward of Rs 1.25 lakh on his head.
