On this day, the whole country remembers Bapu and observes two minutes of silence.

Bapu's death anniversary is being remembered by all the leaders of the country. Rahul Gandhi also paid tribute to the Father of the Nation through a tweet. "A Hindutvavadi had shot Gandhiji. All Hindutvavadis feel that Gandhiji is no more. Where there is truth, Bapu is still alive today!
Mahatma Gandhi's name exists as a permanent imprint not only in India but all over the world. On January 13, 1948, he began a fast unto death in Calcutta to maintain Hindu-Muslim unity and against communal turmoil. It was the last fast of his life. Mahatma Gandhi was assassinated on January 30, 1948, exactly 11 days after ending his fast on January 18, 1948.
Three days before his assassination, Gandhiji had visited the Qutubuddin Bakhtiar Kaki Dargah in Mehrauli to bring peace to Delhi. At that time Delhi was burning in communal violence. Before leaving the dargah, Gandhiji had given the message of communal harmony and unity while addressing a large gathering of people.
