New Delhi: Petrol and diesel prices continue to remain on rampage as they further increased by 15 paisa and 6 paisa per litre on Monday, taking the petrol price to Rs 82.06 per litre and Rs 73.78 per litre in the national capital
Yesterday, the prices of petrol and diesel in Delhi were Rs 81.91/ litre and Rs 73.72/ litre respectively.
The prices are even worse in the financial capital Mumbai, where the petrol and diesel prices have mounted to Rs89.44 and Rs 78.33 per litre. Yesterday, the prices in Mumbai were Rs 89.29 and Rs 78.26 per litre. The most shocking part is that the petrol price has crossed Rs 90 mark in 12 regions in Maharashtra.
Shiv Sena protests fuel hike:
Activists of Shiv Sena (Hindustan) on Saturday burnt an effigy of Prime Minister Narendra Modi to protest against the rising prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas, police said.
Led by Sena's state vice president Manish Sood, the agitators held a protest march here and shouted anti-Modi slogans.
They also organised a demonstration near a bus stand along the National Highway 1 and burnt the effigy of the prime minister.
'Knee-jerk reactions' to rising fuel prices may harm economy: BJP
With the opposition demanding that the government slash fuel prices, the BJP Wednesday said "knee-jerk reactions" will not help and may end up harming the economy by worsening the fiscal deficit and pushing up inflation.
Union minister Piyush Goyal put up a strong defence of the government amid the opposition's attack on it over spiralling fuel prices, saying it is working with a holistic view of the economy and has full confidence that people will support and respect the decisions taken in the national interest.
