New Delhi: President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday said that from a small beginning to the present, the Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly has covered a long journey. During her address in the Arunachal Pradesh Assembly, Murmu congratulated all the past and current members.


"From this small beginning to the present, this Legislative Assembly has covered a long journey. For this, I congratulate all the past and current members," President Droupadi Murmu was quoted by the news agency ANI as saying in Arunachal Pradesh Assembly. She also said that there were 33 members earlier and the number has now increased to 60.






"It's a matter of delight that in that first Legislative Assembly, Sibo Kai was nominated as the first woman member. In the beginning, there were 33 members & their number increased to 60 on 20th Feb 1987 when Arunachal Pradesh was granted full statehood, President Murmu said.

President Murmu said that the foundation of modern democracy in Arunachal Pradesh started in 1967 with NEFA Panchayat Raj Regulation at rural level.


"Foundation of modern democracy in Arunachal Pradesh started in 1967 with NEFA Panchayat Raj Regulation at rural level," President said. In chain of development after that, on 15th Aug 1975, Pradesh Council was converted into Provisional Legislative Assembly of UT, she added.
