BJP Slams Mamata Banerjee After TMC Leader's Husband Is Arrested For Possession Of DRDO Papers
TMC leader Amrita Ekka's husband, Francis Ekka, was arrested with confidential DRDO documents and radioactive material.
Bharatiya Janata Party on Saturday slammed Trinamool Congress after its leader Amrita Ekka's husband Francis Ekka was arrested in Darjeeling for having confidential DRDO documents and a large quantity of radioactive material worth crores.
Ekka was arrested in a joint raid with the army from Belgachi village in Naxalbari block, according to the Times of India. Several confidential documents and a large quantity of radioactive Californium were recovered from his possession, said the officer.
The market value of a gram of the seized radioactive material could be around Rs 17 crore, the official added. Ekka has been charged with smuggling sensitive DRDO documents and radioactive materials, he said, adding the accused may have links to foreign organisations.

"Dangerous nuclear material which is worth crores of rupees and DRDO documents which are confidential in nature were recovered from the house of a TMC leader," he said.
"Francis Ekka, from whom these documents were recovered and this material was recovered happens to be the husband of a TMC leader in the Naxalbari Panchayat Samiti," he added.
"How can such kind of important national security documents and such material reach the house of a TMC leader?" Poonawalla questioned.
"Isn't it proof of their anti-national antecedents and activities? How did the administration not know? Is it complicity or plain ignorance and incompetence? Either way, TMC has had a long history of compromising national interest for vote bank interest, compromising national and state interest for their private corrupt interests," he added.
The BJP leader demanded a thorough probe into the matter and went on to accuse TMC of sheltering "Rohingyas, infiltrators, and bomb makers."
