Former Tripura chief minister and BJP leader Biplab Deb had a narrow escape after his car rammed into a stationary vehicle on GT road in Haryana's Panipat district, ANI reported. Deb, however, did not suffer any injuries.
The accident happened when Deb, who is a Rajya Sabha MP, was coming to Chandigarh from Delhi. The accident took place at a road stretch between Samlakha and Panipat, PTI reported quoting police.
"Nobody was hurt in the incident," said Deputy Superintendent of Police (Samalkha) Om Prakash. "A car had stopped on the GT road after its tyre got punctured. Deb's vehicle which was coming from behind rammed into the stationary car," a police officer said.
The car was severely damaged following the crash. Locals rushed to the scene after the accident and rescued Deb and his driver from the vehicle.
Biplab Deb, who led the BJP to victory in Tripura in 2018 by decimating 25 years of Left rule, was appointed as BJP in-charge for Haryana last year. He resigned as CM abruptly in May last year and his once close aide Dr Manik Saha was chosen to replace him.
He won the bye-election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat from Tripura in September last year. He secured 43 votes as against 15 by Bhanu Lal Saha of the CPI(M).
