Bengaluru: Ahead of the Tamil Nadu state assembly election in 2021, a major development coming up is that the close aide of former chief minister J Jayalalithaa, VK Sasikala is all set to finish her jail term in January 2021. ALSO READ | Bihar Polls: PM Modi Appeals To Bihari Sentiments, Invokes 'Chhathi Maiya' While Launching Projects Worth Rs 541 Crores

VK Sasikala is serving a four year-term lodged at Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara prison after she was convicted and sentenced in the Rs 66 crore disproportionate assets case in February 2017.

Sasikala was convicted by the Supreme Court along with two of her relatives Illavarasi and Sudhakaran who are also lodged in the Parappana Agrahara Central Prison.

Replying to an RTI query, Bengaluru Central Prison's Public Information Officer said that Sasikala is expected to come out of the jail on January 27, 2021, upon paying the entire fine amount of Rs 10 crore.

"Convict Sasikala's probable date of release is 27-01-2021 provided in-default fine is paid. The probable date would be 27-02-2022 if the fine is not paid," the RTI reply read.

The RTI further stated that her date of release from the prison may vary if she utilises the parole facility.

This development comes as a big relief for Sasikala as she is all set to walk out in January 2021. This could possibly become a major turning point in Tamil Nadu politics ahead of the next year’s Assembly elections.
