- Gill came under scanner several years ago when serious charges of human rights violation were levied against him. It was said that Gill violated human rights "in the name of stamping out terrorism”
- Gill was also an author, an editor and a public speaker. Since he has been known to eradicate terrorism from the country, he had also been consulted on the issue of counter-terrorism on several occasions
- Gill has also served as a president of the Institute for Conflict Management and president of the Indian Hockey Federation
- He had received a Padma Shri award, India's fourth-highest civilian honour, in 1989 for his contribution in the civil services

New Delhi: Punjab former Director General of Police Kanwar Pal Singh Gill passed away at the age of 82 years on Friday. Gill who has served twice as DGP of Punjab and has been known for bringing Punjab insurgency under control.
