New Delhi: Former Chief Minister H. D. Deve Gowda and his wife have tested positive for Covid-19 and are self-isolating, he informed via Twitter. Gowda is senior Janata Dal Secular leader who lives in Padmanabhanagar in south Bengaluru. He requested those who came in contact with him to get themselves tested.
Gowda was Prime Minister of India between June 1996 and April 1997. Before which he was the 14th Chief Minister of Karnataka from 1994 to 1996. Born to a humble farming family, in the 1950s he received a diploma in civil engineering from L. V. Polytechnic, in 1953 he joined the Indian National Congress. He is the National President of the Janata Dal (Secular) party. He is credited for starting the Delhi Metro Project.
He married Chennamma in 1954. They have six children together including politicians H. D. Revanna and H. D. Kumaraswamy the former Chief Minister of Karnataka.
According to media reports, Karnataka reported nearly 3000 new cases of COVID-19 on Tuesday and 21 deaths with 1984 cases in Bengaluru.
On Tuesday the Centre wrote to various states and Union Territories because there has been a steady rise in Covid cases. The Centre listed out various strategies to battle the worsening situation.
