New Delhi: Two civilians were shot dead in the national capital on Thursday night after an argument led to a group of assailants firing gunshots. The incident took place near the Hindu Rao Hospital around 9 pm.

Naeem was on his way along with relative Mohammad Munib and friend Prakash when a man suddenly came in front of his car and refused to move away. An argument ensued over the same and some assailants came in and fired gunshots, killing 2 passersby.

According to early inputs, it is suspected the miscreants were planning to attack Naeem and this might be a case of animosity between 2 groups.

ABP News talked to Naeem about the incident and he said: "A person came to me and asked if COVID vaccine is administered here, I said no. Then we sat in our car and that same individual stood in front of our vehicle. We thought he might be a thief. We were suspicious and we tried to move him away but he refused to budge".

"People gathered around seeing this person misbehave. We managed to have him leave but another person (associated with miscreant) came in firing gunshots," he added.

Mohammad Munib, who was also at the scene, said: "There were 2 people at one end and 4-5 people at the other point. The person who came in front of our car was not moving away so we were forced to come out. Other people helped to have him leave. Then 2 people came and started firing at us. I tried to hide at the travel agency office but the person who intended to shoot me ended up killing another civilian".

"We ran ahead to save our lives, they managed to chase us and shot another passerby there," he added.

Munib informed that they did not recognise the assailants and have told the police about who they suspect to be behind the attack.

Police have recovered the CCTV footage of the area and the probe into the case is underway. No arrests have been made so far.
