New Delhi: In another display to show that the social media creators can be held accountable for an objectionable post on their platform, Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg has been named in an FIR filed against him and 49 others in Kannauj, UP.
A case has been registered against Mark Zuckerberg over an alleged controversial post via a Facebook page against Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav.
PTI reports, Amit Kumar, a resident of Sarahati village in Kannauj district, filed a case against Zuckerberg and 49 others for posting defamatory comments against SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav.
In his application before the court, Kumar alleged the image of Akhilesh Yadav is being tarnished on a Facebook page titled "Bua Babua".
The term “Bua Babua” was termed by political rivals when SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav and BSP chief Mayawati joined hands for the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections.
Mark Zuckerberg's Name-Dropped From FIR
It is reported that on further investigation, the name of Facebook CEO has been dropped and further action is being taken against the Facebook page administrator.
"During the course of investigation Zuckerberg`s name was dropped, even as investigation is being carried out against the administrator of the (Facebook) page," said a senior police official to PTI.
Kumar had sent an application to the Superintendent of Police on May 25 but his application fell on deaf ears. Following this, he went to court and demanded that a case be registered against the admin of the Facebook page along with Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg.
