Women's rights activist Kamla Bhasin died in the national capital on 25 September 2021. She died due to cancer. The news of her death was shared by activist Kavita Srivastava.
Srivastava took to Twitter and wrote: "Kamla Bhasin, our dear friend, passed away around 3 am today 25th Sept. This is a big setback for the women's movement in India and the South Asian region. She celebrated life whatever the adversity. Kamla you will always live in our hearts. In Sisterhood, which is in deep grief"
Bhasin is mostly known for her work for women's rights. She wrote about women in Partition history, she was known as developmental in her ideology (feminism). She worked with Underprivileged, marginalized people to get them a source of living away from nonliterary work. She also was associated with the struggle for environmental conservation.
She is better known for 'Sangat – A Feminist Network' and for her poem 'Kyunki main ladki hoon, mujhe padhna hai' - a hindi poem translating as 'I am a girl, thus, I want to study'
Kamla Bhasin worked for the upliftment of women and the poor throughout her life.
