New Delhi: The Bharatiya Kisan Union on Thursday urged the farmers protesting against the farm laws passed by the Central Government last year to postpone their agitation.
The appeal came after two farmers succumbed to Covid-19 near the Delhi-Haryana Singhu border.
“Two farmers died at Singhu border due to corona. If the farmers keep dying like this then who will agitate? So, I would like to request to the farmers that we must postpone the agitation for the time being looking at the crisis in the country,” ANI quoted Bhopal Singh of Bharatiya Kisan Union (Kisan Sarkar) as saying.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) had warned the Centre against testing their patience and asked the ruling dispensation to initiate a dialogue and accept their demands.
Thousands of farmers, mainly from Punjab, Haryana and western Uttar Pradesh, are protesting against the three farm laws passed by the Parliament on the outskirts of the national capital since November last year.
There have been 11 rounds of talks so far between the protesting unions and the government but deadlock continues as the farmers have despite repeated appeals refused to end their stir while demanding the repeal of farm laws and a legal guarantee on the minimum support price (MSP) for their crops.
