New Delhi: Tata Group and Airbus will be working collectively to manufacture 40 transport aircraft named C-295 for the Indian Air Force, the Government of India announced on Thursday. The project has been valued at 2 million USD and it will be based in Gujarat. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be inaugurating the manufacturing unit on Sunday.


India's Defence Ministry in a statement said, "This is the first project of its kind in which a military aircraft will be manufactured in India by a private company."

It will be used as a carrier-transport aircraft


This aircraft can carry almost a payload of 6 tonnes at once


This aircraft can fly continuously for approximately 11 hours in one go


The aircraft can carry 71 defence personnel or 50 paratroopers at a time


Currently, India has only Avro aircraft which can be considered somewhat equal to C-295, and is quite old. Therefore, C-295 will be replacing them.
