Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his sorrow on the passing away of veteran constitutional lawyer and senior Supreme Court advocate Fali S Nariman has been a towering figure in the country's landscape. Prime Minister Modi tweeted, "Fali Nariman Ji was among the most outstanding legal minds and intellectuals. He devoted his life to making justice accessible to common citizens. I am pained by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and admirers. May his soul rest in peace."

 

Several from the legal community and top political leaders paid tributes to the legal luminary who passed away at the age of 95 in New Delhi on Wednesday after suffering from ailments, including cardiac issues.

 




President Droupadi Murmu also paid tribute to the legal doyen as she tweeted, "I am saddened to learn that Fali Nariman, a titan among legal luminaries, is no more. Among the wisest experts on our Constitution, he was also a globally respected jurist. He served the nation in various roles, including as a member of the Rajya Sabha, with equal dedication. His contributions in enriching constitutional practices and strengthening legal system will be remembered for long. My condolences to his family, colleagues and admirers."

 

Stalwarts from the legal community condoled the demise of the legal doyen. Kapil Sibal, Indira Jaising and Prashant Bhushan among others paid rich tribute to him. Sibal said, "A great son of India passes away. Not just one of the greatest lawyers in our country but one of the finest human beings who stood like a colossus above all. The corridors of the court will never be the same without him. May his soul rest in peace."


Indira Jaisaing said, "Fali S Nariman Senior Advovate has passed on from this world . He was the last of a generation on lawyers from Bombay who shaped and moulded the history of constitutional law in India, a voice that stood by secular values, for the Independence of the judiciary. My deepest condolences for his family."


Calling him a 'pillar for our Constitution & Civil Liberties', Prashant Bhushan said his 'unexpected passing is a huge loss to the legal community & the country'. He also shared a message that the veteran lawyer had sent him five days ago.
