New Delhi: Delhi Police on Friday sought four days custody of the five men arrested on charges of blackmailing Minister of State for Home Affairs Ajay Misra Teni.
The Delhi Police made the arrests earlier after receiving a call from the minister’s staff that he received extortion calls.
“An FIR was lodged in New Delhi district. Five persons - four from Noida and one from Delhi - have been arrested for making extortion calls,” according to Delhi Police, ANI reported.
Teni’s son Ashish Misra is among the 13 accused in the violence that took place under the Tikunia Police Station limits of Lakhimpur Kheri earlier on October 3.
The minister’s son was arrested on October 9 and is presently lodged in jail.
Eight people, including four farmers and a local journalist, were killed in the violence in Lakhimpur Kheri that followed post the incident on October 3. They were allegedly mowed down by a vehicle that was part of the minister’s convoy in Lakhimpur Kheri.
The Uttar Pradesh Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the Lakhimpur violence case, has termed the incident to be well-planned and a deliberate act, and not of negligence or callousness.
Several others too have been arrested by the SIT during its probe in connection with this case and they are lodged in the Lakhimpur Kheri district jail.
The Opposition has stepped up its attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government post the SIT’s submission demanding that the Minister of State for Home be dismissed from the Union Cabinet over the Lakhimpur violence.
