Kolkata: Luizinho Faleiro, former chief minister of the state and a senior Congress leader, resigned as a member of the Goa Legislative Assembly on Monday, announcing his intention to join the Trinamool Congress (TMC).

“I, Luizinho Faleiro, hereby tender my resignation of my seat in the house w.e.f. 27th Sep 2021,” tweeted Faleiro on Monday.

Following this, many other experienced politicians and prominent civil society members are going to be inducted as members of All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Wednesday.

Personalities like Lavoo Mamledar, former IPS officer and former MGP member; N Shivdas, a cultural icon of Goa and a Sahitya Academy awardee; along with Rajendra Shivaji Kakodkar, an environmentalist and a seasoned politician who has previously worked closely with a number of elected officials are to be inducted.

Luizinho Faleiro on Monday, also tweeted that Mamata Banerjee is “a symbol of women empowerment,”adding that “she is a street-fighter and Goa needs her.”

However, neither Mamata Banerjee, the TMC Supremo nor Abhishek Banerjee will be present in this joining ceremony. This is because both of them are voters in Bhawanipore by-election that is to be conducted on 30th September.

After aiming to spread its roots to Tripura, TMC is now set to launch itself in Goa. This has been confirmed by the party's National General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee as he publicly announced it during Mamata Banerjee's campaign in Bhabanipur this week.

IPAC members are camping in Goa to lay the groundwork, while MPs Derek O'Brien and Prasun Banerjee were in the state a few days ago.
