New Delhi: Following a low-intensity blast at a police station in Punjab’s Tarn Taran, Punjab Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav said that the “cowardly attack” was carried out by “enemy nation in the night to distract”, reported news agency ANI. The police station was hit by a low-intensity blast earlier this morning, reported the news agency, adding that prima facie, the incident appeared to be a rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attack.
Talking to the media, Punjab DGP said, “This year, there have been around 200 drone crossings. In the last one month, several drones were intercepted, heroin, and arms were seized. I believe that the enemy nation is rattled and is carrying out a cowardly attack in the night, to distract.”
Here are top developments in the incident so far.
- The Punjab DGP said, “We'll investigate SFJ's claim. We'll investigate all angles and theories. Handlers and operators in Pakistan, elements they're in touch with in Europe, North America & their links being probed so that real perpetrators are arrested soon.”
- Preliminary probe reveals it should be military-grade hardware and could be a matter of trans-border smuggling. Very clear indication that it's a strategy of the neighbouring nation to bleed India by a thousand cuts. Punjab Police, with BSF and central agencies, will investigate, he added.
- As per the DGP, preliminary investigation reveals that around 11.22 pm last night, a grenade was fired from a highway using RPG. It hit the suvidha centre of Sarhali Police Station. FIR registered under UAPA. Forensic team here. Army squad is here too.
- Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal reacting to the incident said that stringent action will be taken and that gangsters have been nabbed in the state after the Aam Aadmi Party came to power. “People who were acting under the protection of old parties were caught. Strict action will be taken,” he added.
