New Delhi: The Election Commission of India on Saturday moved the Supreme Court against what it called “blatantly disparaging remarks” by the Madras High Court over holding elections amid the deadly second wave of the coronavirus in the country.
The Madras High Court had earlier on April 26 lashed out at the Election Commission over the Covid-19 second wave in the country, holding it “singularly” responsible for the spread and called it the “the most irresponsible institution”.

The High Court added that the Election Commission officials might be booked on murder charges.
“Public health is of paramount importance and it is distressing that constitutional authorities have to be reminded in such regard. It is only when a citizen survives that he will be able to enjoy the rights that a democratic republic guarantees,” PTI quoted the Madras High Court judges as saying.
The Election Commission's move comes ahead of counting on Sunday in the four poll gone states of Assam, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and West Bengal with one Union Territory of Puducherry.
