Mumbai/Patna: Ejaz Lakdawala, fugitive gangster and former stooge of underworld Don Dawood Ibrahim, was arrested from Patna by Mumbai Police's anti extortion cell on Thursday. Lakdawala was wanted in connection with several cases of extortion, attempt to kill and rioting.

“His daughter was in our custody. She gave a lot of information to us. Our sources also told us about his arrival in Patna,he was arrested in Jattanpur police station limits, Joint commissioner of police, Mumbai Crime Branch, Santosh Rastogi told reporters in a media briefing today.

Reports say he has been remanded to police custody till January 21 by Court.

He once worked for underworld don Dawood Ibrahim before forming his own gang, reports said.

In May 2004, he was arrested by the Canadian Police in Ottawa.

A few years back he was believed to be somewhere in North America, although he frequently changed his locations to South East Asia as well.

A Red Corner notice had earlier been issued against him.

His arrest comes after his daughter Sonia Lakdawala was arrested on December 27 by Anti Extortion cell of Mumbai Police at Mumbai Airport while she was trying to flee India with the help of a passport acquired through forged documents.

There was a look out notice against his daughter Sonia. Sonia was trying to travel to Nepal along with her one-year-old daughter when she was apprehended and arrested later.

After Anti Extortion cell interrogated her, it came to light that Sonia married a Versova-based man Shahid Sheikh in 2018 and obtained passport using a fake bank account, Pan card, and other documents.
