Uttar Pradesh: Owing to the nationwide lockdown enforced to curb the spread of Coronavirus, Eid celebrations this year is likely to be different. The Muslim community, which usually hosts a grand feast and serve 'meethi sewai' (Sweet vermicelli) to relatives, is unable to step outside to even buy vermicelli.
However, in a heartwarming initiative to keep up the spirit of the festival, the Sambhal area of Uttar Pradesh will deliver vermicelli at people's doorsteps. This would avoid crowding in the markets and would also maintain the festive vibes ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr.
An ANI report stated that many shopkeepers incurred losses in the business due to the lockdown. Even the Eid, which is the high time to earn from the business, has failed to overcome the losses. To revivep their earnings, the shopkeepers have decided to home deliver vermicelli.
"Maximum sale of vermicelli happens during Eid festival. But due to the lockdowns, our businesses got hampered this year. But as it is Eid tomorrow, demand of this food item has again shoot up. We are now home delivering this item as people are hesitant to step outdoors due to the deadly virus," said Robin Kumar, a shopkeeper.
"I am getting vermicelli home delivered today as tomorrow is Eid. We will make a sweet from it," said Akram, a customer.
