The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is conducting raids on Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Punjab MLA Kulwant Singh in connection with the liquor scam in Delhi and Punjab. PTI reported citing officials that raids are raids are being conducted at several places in Punjab including Singh's premises.
This comes a day after the Supreme Court denied bail to former Deputy CM Manish Sisodia, who is in jail in connection with the Delhi Liquor Policy 'scam' case.
News agency PTI cited official sources as saying that locations in Mohali, Amritsar and Ludhiana are being covered by the federal probe agency. It added that an escort of central paramilitary forces personnel is also assisting the agency. ED's action is being undertaken under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) and is said to be based on an FIR of the Punjab Police in connection to a narcotics and drugs trafficking case.
The MLA was recently in the news after Punjab Governor Banwarilal Purohit asked CM Bhagwant Mann to take "strict action" against the legislator's real estate company, PTI stated. The governor had said that the real estate company of Singh has two projects that allegedly violated environmental norms.
According to PTI, two projects in Mohali are being developed by a company owned by the AAP MLA, Janta Land Promoters Limited (JLPL).
Meanwhile, the ED has summoned Delhi CM and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal in the liquor policy case on Thursday (Nov 2). AAP leader Atishi on Tuesday said that there are apprehensions that Kejriwal will be arrested on Nov 2.
"BJP will also target other CMs using CBI, ED. BJP wants to finish off AAP; if Kejriwal is arrested it would be because of his fight against BJP," the Delhi minister added, as quoted by PTI.
