A major accident occurred in Yamunanagar, Haryana, on Wednesday, October 5, on the occasion of Vijaya Dashami or Dussehra. A burning effigy of Ravana fell on people, ABP News reports. However, several people narrowly escaped and one was injured in the incident, police said, news agency PTI reported. 


Several people were scorched in the accident.






In a video released by ABP News, a huge burning effigy of Ravana can be seen falling on people. 


"Some people were trying to go near the burning effigy but police personnel present there pushed them back," Yamunanagar Superintendent of Police Mohit Handa said, reported news agency PTI. 


"We have checked in hospitals and police personnel were also present on the spot. There was no injury to anyone," he said.


Asked whether the effigy fell on any of the spectators, the SP said it did not.

"It may appear that the burning effigy fell on some people but it was not the case, said the SP while referring to a video clip of the incident doing the rounds on social media," the SP added. 


Effigies of demon king Ravana, his son Meghnad and brother Kumbhakaran are set on fire on the occasion of Dussehra to celebrate the victory of good over evil.


Dussehra is a major festival celebrated annually in the Indian subcontinent at the end of the Navratri. The festival commemorates the victory of good over evil.
