President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and others extended their greetings to the nation on the occasion of Vijayadashami.
Extending greetings to the people on Dussehra, Prime Minister Modi tweeted in Hindi: “I wish that this auspicious occasion brings courage, restraint and positive energy in everyone's life”.
President Droupadi Murmu tweeted on the occasion saying, "I wish that this festival brings happiness, peace, and prosperity in the lives of all the countrymen."
Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, is one of the most celebrated festivals across the country. Dussehra marks the end of nine days of the Navratri festival and signifies the victory of good over evil as Lord Ram had defeated Lanka king Ravana. On this day, the effigies of Ravana are burned in many places to symbolise the destruction of evil, along with fireworks.
People also celebrate this day to mark the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasur.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah also congratulated people on 'Vijayadashmi'.
“May this festival of victory of good over evil, religion over unrighteousness and truth over untruth, infuse new energy and inspiration in everyone's life,” tweeted Shah.
“May truth and justice prevail. Wishing everyone a very Happy Vijayadashami,” tweeted Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on the occasion.
