Taking to his official twitter handle, PM Modi announced that he had a warm and productive conversation with Trump where he discussed "plans for the US Presidency of G-7, the COVID-19 pandemic, and many other issues." In a followup tweet, Prime Minister said that the richness and depth of India-US consultations will remain an important pillar of the post-COVID global architecture.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister's Office in an official statement said that US President during his conversation with Modi extended an invitation to India to attend the next G-7 Summit to be held in USA. Trump spoke about US Presidency of the Group of Seven, conveyed his desire to expand ambit of grouping beyond existing membership, to include other important countries including India besides Russia, Australia, and South Korea.
Earlier, the summit was supposed to take place for 10-12 June, however, due to Coronavirus outbreak, Trump decided to postpone the G7 summit until December.
The PM Office further said that PM Modi while speaking to Trump commended him for his creative and far-sighted approach, acknowledging the fact that such an expanded forum would be in keeping with emerging realities of post-COVID world. PM said India would be happy to work with US and other countries to ensure success of proposed Summit
The official statement further read that Prime Minister Modi expressed concern regarding the ongoing civil disturbances in the US, and conveyed his best wishes for an early resolution of the situation. The two leader also exchanged views on other topical issues, such as the COVID-19 situation in the two countries, the situation on the India-China border, and the need for reforms in the World Health Organisation (WHO).
