New Delhi: Hitting back at critics for cornering him over his remarks made earlier in a clubhouse conversation with regard to the revocation of Article 370 and stripping Jammu and Kashmir of statehood Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Saturday said “illiterates cannot understand the difference between shall and consider”.
“Illiterates cannot understand the difference between shall and consider,” he said in a tweet posted in Hindi.
The Congress leader’s outburst came as his comments made during a conversation on the clubhouse app that the revocation of Article 370 and stripping Jammu and Kashmir of statehood was an “extremely sad” decision and his party will have a “relook” at the issue triggered a controversy with the leaders of the ruling BJP lambasting him for speaking against India and in tune with Pakistan.
Demanding a clarification from Congress president Sonia Gandhi and her son Rahul Gandhi on the issue, BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra said: “What do Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi think about Digvijaya’s clubhouse statement? Is this Congress’ stand too? We demand Rahul Gandhi to hold a press conference and clarify.”
“We have all seen how Digvijaya Singh is spitting venom on India and speaking in agreement with Pakistan. This is the same person who had dubbed the Pulwama attack as an accident and described the 26/11 Mumbai attack as RSS conspiracy,” he added.
Patra further in a tweet lambasted the Congress Party which he dubbed a “clubhouse of anti-nationals”.
“Digvijay Singh on being questioned by a Pak Journalist,on getting rid of “Modi” & on Kashmir policy, says that if Congress comes back to power they would have a rethink on Article 370,May restore it. He also talks about Hindu fundamentalists. Congress a clubhouse of Anti-nationals,” he tweeted.
Digvijaya Singh, however, drew support from National Conference chief Farooq Abdullah, who welcomed his statement.
“I am very grateful to Digvijaya Singh ji. He has realized the sentiments of people as other parties who have also spoken about it. I welcome it heartily and hope the government will look into it again,” he said.
