Confident of proving a majority during the floor test to be conducted in the Maharashtra Assembly on Thursday, June 30, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is likely to make Devendra Fadnavis the chief minister of the state, reported ABP News, citing sources.
Rebel leader Eknath Shinde and his MLAs will extend support to Fadnavis during the floor test, the source added. If BJP manages to win the test, Fadnavis will take the oath alone.
A second swearing-in will happen after the BJP executive meeting in which Eknath Shinde will take oath as deputy chief minister of Maharashtra. BJP and Shinde faction ministers will also be sworn in on the same day, the ABP source further said.
A special session of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly has been called by Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari tomorrow asking Uddhav Thackeray's Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance to prove his majority on the floor of the house. Koshyari wrote to assembly secretary Rajendra Bhagwat calling for a special session at 11 am for Maha Vikas Agadi alliance.
"As the constitutional head of the state , I must ensure that the government functions with the support and confidence of the House. Thus, I have issued a communication to the Chief Minister calling upon to prove his majority on the floor of the House on 30.06.2022," read the statement released by the Maharashtra Raj Bhavan Wednesday.
The Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government in Maharashtra is facing a crisis as several of its MLAs, led by Eknath Shinde, have rebelled and are currently camping in Assam capital Guwahati.
