New Delhi: For the second day on Wednesday, India recorded covid-19 cases below the 15,000-mark but witnessed an increase from the number of cases reported yesterday. As per the data shared by the Union Health Ministry, the country reported 14,506 fresh cases in the last 24 hours. The new cases have taken the tally of active caseload in the country to 99,602. 


The daily positivity rate in the country was at 3.35 percent whereas the weekly positivity rate was recorded to be 3.30 percent. 


The infection claimed 30 lives in the last 24 hours whereas 11,574 people were reported recovered from the disease. 


With a recovery rate of 98.56 percent the total recoveries in the country so far have reached 4,28,08,666. 






On the previous day, 11,793 fresh infections were reported in the country with 27 deaths and 9,486 recoveries. 


Of 86.19 crore samples that have been tested so far since the start of the pandemic, 4,33,659 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. 


Under the Nationwide Vaccination Drive, 197.46 crore doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered to people so far. 


On Tuesday, The Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI) approved India's first indigenously developed mRNA vaccine against COVID-19 manufactured by Gennova Biopharmaceuticals for restricted emergency use for those aged 18 years and above, official sources, reported news agency PTI.  


Serum Institute's COVID-19 vaccine Covovax was also approved by the drug regulator for restricted emergency use in children aged 7 to 11 years subject to certain conditions.
