New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath ordered a CBI probe into the Deoria shelter home case hours after a girl missing from there was found at an old age run by the same NGO in Gorakhpur.


The Gorakhpur old age home that was run by the owners of Maa Vindhyavasini shelter home in Deoria has now been sealed.

Five people who were involved in running the Gorakhpur shelter, including Devi's daughter Kanaklata have been detained.

Deoria inmate in Gorakhpur:

An inmate of the Maa Vindhyavasini shelter home was found in Girija Devi’s Gorakhpur NGO. Police said the girl from the Deoria shelter sould not have been at the Gorakhpur home, as it is meant for the old age people.

After police’s raid of the Deoria shelter, a rescued inmate had disclosed that girls were taken to Gorakhpur in the afternoon and were brought back the next day in the morning.

Yogi Adityanath orders CBI Probe

CM Yogi has constituted a special investigation team into the matter that involves possible sexual assault of the inmates. Hours after a Deoria inmate was found in Girijia Devi’s old-age home in Gorakhpur, CM ordered a CBI enquiry.

Adityanath held the previous governments responsible for the manner in which the NGO was being run, but also said the role of the local police will probed.

He also mentioned the presence of boys at the Deoria shelter, saying they will be shifted to other child protection homes.

Five including Girija Devi’s daughter arrested from Gorakhpur:

Those arrested in Gorakhpur include Ma Vindhyavasini NGO's arrested manager Girija Devi's widowed daughter Kanaklata, who stays there with her four-year-old daughter, informed Gorakhpur DM.

The five, including a clerk, a female cook and a housemaid, will be handed over to Deoria police.

He said the presence of the girl from the Deoria home had not been recorded in the register when a team went there the previous day.  But the name was there today.

"The age of the girl is not confirmed as there is overwriting and she told us she came here on August 5 from the Deoria shelter home”, he said. Another official said the age had been entered as 21 in the register.

The girl who was apparently in a state of shock was continuously changing her statement. As per the Deoria police record, the woman was missing from the Ma Vindhyavasini shelter home," the DM said.

Meanwhile, the superintendent of the Deoria shelter home Kanchanlata Tripathi, who was on the run, was arrested in Deoria, SP Rohan P Kanay said.

Total nine arrests have been made in the case so far.
