Delhi Violence: Shahrukh, the gunman who brazenly opened fire at the police in Jaffrabad area during the Delhi violence last week was arrested by the Crime Branch of Delhi Police on Tuesday afternoon.

Shahrukh was whisked by the cops from Shamli in Uttar Pradesh.

At least 47 people were killed and more than 200 were injured in the violence which tore across the northeast region of the national capital on February 23, 24 and 25. Shahrukh and his family fled from home on February 25.

Police who were continuously raiding to find Shahrukh have finally got success on Tuesday. Shahrukh is now being brought to Delhi from Shamli.

A few days ago Joint Commissioner Alok Kumar had said that: “we are looking for Shahrukh who fired at an unarmed policeman and fired several rounds in the air during the violence.”

  • Video where Shahrukh could be seen pointing his country-made pistol at the policeman on the Jaffrabad-Maujpur road, went viral last week.

  • 33-year-old Shahrukh who was sporting a red T-shirt was then identified by the Delhi Police.

  • Shahrukh had fired eight rounds in the presence of police personnel.

  • Shahrukh is said to be a resident of Shahdara.

  • He was seen confronting an unarmed Delhi Police officer, forcing him to back off and then moving back shooting at some people on the other side of the road.

  • The picture of Shahrukh pointing a gun with fire blazing in the backdrop in the riot-hit area Jaffrabad became the face of Delhi communal riots.


At least 46 people lost their lives and more than 200 others sustained serious injuries in the violence that rocked North-East Delhi last week.
