New Delhi: The Crime Branch of Delhi has detained two persons from the Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station for carrying Rs.27 lakh in new Rs.2000 notes on Thursday.

Residents of Pitampura, Ajit Singh and Rajendra Singh were travelling from Mumbai to Delhi by Samaprk Kranti.  The two had a white-colored Fortuner waiting for them outside the station. They were apprehended while they placed the money inside the car.

The police are now investigating how the duo managed to get such a large amount of money when the maximum withdrawal limit is Rs.24, 000 per week through a cheque.

According to the police, the car is registered under the name of Sanjay Malik and that the money belongs to Sanjay as well.

Ajit Pal told the police that Sanjay Malik is actually his neighbor and that it was his money he was carrying. He went on to say that he religiously pays income tax.

It is being suspected that Sanjay Malik is a big businessman and owns a pharmaceutical company in Himachal. The police have said that apart from his own notes, Malik exchanges the notes of other people as well. So far, nearly Rs.1.5 crore has been brought from Mumbai to Delhi.

Interestingly, Sanjay Malik’s daughter is also absconding with a sum of Rs.50 lakh.

At present, the intelligence sleuths and income tax officials are investigating the case and are jointly interrogating the accused.
