New Delhi: A Delhi school teacher was detained for allegedly hitting a class 5 student with scissors and pushing her off the first floor of the school building, Delhi Police said on Friday.

According to a report by news agency PTI, the student is undergoing treatment at Hindu Rao hospital and is said to be out of danger.

The class teacher, employed at Prathmik Vidyalaya in central Delhi's Model Basti area, was identified as Geeta Deshwal. She first hit the girl with a pair of scissors and then threw her off from the first floor of the school building, police said.

Police reached the spot and brought the situation under control. The accused has also been detained.

“I was hit with a pair of scissors and she (teacher) pulled my hair and then threw me from the school's first floor. I did not do anything wrong,” news agency ANI quoted the student as saying.

“A teacher of Prathmik Vidyalaya in Model Basti started hitting a student with a pair of scissors and pushed her off the 1st floor of school. We've taken actions against the teacher. I had come to do a survey of school. The child is currently safe,” Shweta Chauhan, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central) Delhi, said.

The accused has been booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code.
