New Delhi: Former Congress MLA Asif Mohammed Khan was arrested by the Delhi police on Saturday after a video of him harassing the staff of South Delhi Municipal Corporation went viral on Friday.
A video of the Ex-MLA surfaced on Friday in which he can be seen beating the SDMC staff with a cane and making them hold ears while doing squats for allegedly removing posters put up by him, reported PTI.
Khan has refused to have any knowledge of the identity of the men removing posters. “I don't know who they were. I received no call or message from the SDMC about the incident,” Khan told PTI.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast) Esha Pandey said a case was registered against the former Okhla MLA on Friday based on a complaint by Ram Kishore, Inspector, MCD Lajpat Nagar Zone.
“The accused, Asif Md Khan, a resident of Shaheen Bagh, has been arrested, and investigation of the case is under progress,” Pandey said.

Khan is accused of abusing and assaulting on-duty MCD staff and obstructing government work.
Khan on the contrary said that he did not know about the men being SDMC workers, rather he had beaten them as they allegedly removed only his posters and not of the local Aam Aadmi Party MLA.
“I saw that some men were removing Congress party hoardings and posters near home in Okhla. When I questioned why they never removed posters and hoardings of other parties, they did not answer. I just taught them a lesson. I have no idea who they were,” clarified Khan.
“The matter has been discussed with the deputy commissioner of the central zone. Appropriate legal action is being taken by zonal authorities,” a municipal corporation official told PTI on condition of anonymity.
