Delhi: Playing Loudspeakers Without Permission Will Now Attract Fine Of Up To Rs 1 Lakh

The order said Rs one lakh fine will be imposed for Diesel Generator sets of over 1000 kilovolt-ampere (KVA), while Rs 50,000 for sound-emitting construction equipment without prior permission.

New Delhi: Revising the penalty for noise rules violation in the national capital, the Delhi Pollution Control Committee on Saturday issued an order stating playing loudspeakers without permission can attract a fine of up to Rs One lakh.

The order said Rs one lakh fine will be imposed for Diesel Generator sets of over 1000 kilovolt-ampere (KVA), while Rs 50,000 for sound-emitting construction equipment without prior permission.

Under the new amendment, a provision of a fine up to Rs one lakh was made on any medium causing noise pollution, ANI reported.

The Delhi Pollution Control Committee also issued orders to take action regarding noise pollution of generator sets.

In addition, the plant causing noise pollution will now also be confiscated.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has accepted this amendment proposal by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee, which is committed to sustainable development by ensuring improvement in environmental quality of the national capital.

If the construction equipment makes noise more than the prescribed standards then fines up to Rs 50,000 will be imposed, as per the new penalty rates, besides the equipment will also be seized.

Moreover, the people found burning firecrackers in residential or commercial areas will be fined Rs 1,000. The same fine will, however, be Rs 3,000 if the firecracker is being lit in the silent zone.

In addition, the fine will be up to Rs 10,000 in residential and commercial zones and Rs 30,000 in silent zones respectively if the firecrackers are being used in public rallies, marriage ceremonies and other religious events.

This come as the NGT had earlier on August 13 last year directed the Delhi government, Delhi Police, Delhi Pollution Control Committee and Central Pollution Control Board to initiate steps to ensure the noise pollution norms are enforced at the ground level.
