Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport is now compliant with the 5G network which the passengers will be able to avail as soon as these services are rolled out in the Indian market by the Telecom Service Providers (TSPs), said the GMR group that runs the airport, reported news agency PTI. Majority of the airports currently provide wireless service primarily to the passengers through Wi-Fi only. According to Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), the unlicensed spectrum on which the Wi-Fi relies is free for anyone to use.


Airports have seen a spike in demand for more bandwidth and greater speeds as more people use devices like smartphones and laptops, among other things.

According to DIAL, in order to meet demand, airlines and other airport stakeholders are also looking for quick, seamless, and secure connectivity for their core technologies. It also added that with the 5G network, passengers will be able to enjoy a 20 times faster data speed than the currently available Wi-Fi system.


According to PTI, such a network would enable them to broadcast content without buffering, download files more quickly, and run resource-intensive programmes without any problems.


Areas To Be Upgraded In 5G Complaint Zones


The domestic departure pier and international arrival baggage areas at Terminal 3, as well as the area between T3 arrivals and multi-level parking (MLCP), can all be reached with better signal strength, seamless connectivity, and faster data speed for travellers with 5G-enabled mobile phone sets and sim cards, according to the statement release by the airport.


The private airport operator stated that the rollout over T3 will be completed in stages.


Currently, a small number of TSPs have enabled their networks to support 5G service for their clients, and it is anticipated that additional providers of such services will join in the coming weeks.


The CEO at DIAL, Videh Kumar Jaipuria said "The 5G network offers a faster speed and lower latency. At the airport, this feature of the next-generation mobile technology will help improve connection density and will also lead to greater efficiencies and aid in faster decision-making."
