New Delhi: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Thursday announced hike in dearness allowance for state government employees, reported news agency ANI. The DA has been hiked by 4 per cent for the state government employees and pensions in Rajasthan which will be effective from July 1, 2022, the news agency reported.

Now, a 38% dearness allowance will be payable to state employees & pensioners from July 1, 2022, said Rajasthan Chief Minister’s Office.

"Central government makes the announcement first but its implementation takes place after a long time, whereas our government also disburses the increased amount without delay." The chief minister said the state will be spending an additional amount to implement the hike.

"An additional expenditure of Rs 1,096 crore will be incurred from the state fund in implementing today's announcement made in the interest of employees," he said.

The announcement by the Chief Minister came a day later after the Centre gave its nod to hike the DA for Central government employees by 4 per cent.

This is the second time this year that DA has been hiked for the Central government employees. Earlier in March, the Union government had hiked the dearness allowance for its employees by 3 per cent.

The DA was hiked from 31% to 34% during a cabinet meeting in March.

The dearness allowance is paid to the central government employees to offset the impact of inflation on the employees' salaries. It is applicable to both employees and pensioners.
