New Delhi: In a road mishap in Delhi’s Mayur Vihar phase 1, an online food delivery boy died of electrocution after falling in an open pit, while he was on his way for delivery.

The deceased man was identified as Rahul and he worked as a delivery boy in Noida’s food delivery company Swiggy.

Swiggy workers and friends of the deceased also staged a demonstration against the negligence on part of the authorities.

However, Swiggy claims that it has provided financial assistance to the family. Expressing grief over the incident, the company said in a statement "We are deeply saddened by the untimely demise of our delivery partner due to this unfortunate incident. In addition to the life insurance Swiggy provides to every partner, we have also extended financial support to the family members of the deceased. Swiggy has provided Rs 1,20,000 to the family which it has accepted."

It is being said that due to waterlogging in a pit, Rahul’s bike got disbalanced and he came under the effect of current from a nearby pole.

As per a witness, the man first fell off his bike due to the water-logging in a pit, then slipped and collided with an electricity pole and became victim of electrocution. The witness said that the man even shouted that he was getting electric shocks.

The family of the deceased man have accused negligence on the part of the electricity board and Municipal Corporation, for the death of the boy. They have also alleged that even though Rahul died while on duty, the food delivery company hasn’t come forward with any aid so far.
